The Gym
There canβt be many gyms where you can be merrily pounding away on the cardio kit and be looking out across the hills around Bath β it certainly is a gym with a view! Big enough to have all the variations of equipment that you need, yet small enough to be friendly and welcoming.
The cardio and strength kit is all sourced from Technogym β the industry leader in innovative and easy to use fitness equipment. It is complimented by a free weights area, a mat area for abdominals, stretching and floor work and finally a designated spin cycling area where group classes are held. A great range of equipment to choose from and all in one area under the constant helpful eye of the fitness team.
Using a gym for the first few times can be overwhelming just in terms of getting used to what the equipment does and how an exercise is meant to feel β then remembering it again on your next visit. By tailoring a workout to meet you specific needs β through your initial consultation - Step 1 of your YMCA Journey, your induction into the gym will be gradual and structured. Not only are you allocated your own personal fitness consultant, but the whole team are there to help and support you at any stage of your fitness journey.
Most fitness programmes will combine some cardio work with strength work to give you a balanced workout. The cardio part helps to work your heart by pumping blood round to the working muscles. Cardio workouts are good for your general well being but also specifically for weight loss and they also help reduce stress. Cardio machines include: steppers, running machines, bicycles and cross trainers.
The strength machines target specific areas of your body. Working on these will help increase strength and give muscle tone or definition. Working on specific muscles also burns calories and can keep burning them at a faster rate after your workout has finished. An abdominal workout in the mat area ( equipped with exercise balls, medicine balls and ab trainers) will help tone up your tummy and define your waist.
After cooling down you will then stretch out all the muscles you have just worked, lengthening them and recognising the work they have just done. This also helps prevent injury.
