YMCA Journey – to a better, healthier you
Everyone has a different motivation for joining a health and fitness facility. Some may want to lose weight, tone up, be recovering from an injury or illness, be training for a specific event or just want to get fitter and feel healthier. Whatever your personal goal we will support you all the way.
We take a simple 5 step approach to working with you:
Step 1 – The check in
To get your journey off to a flying start you will meet with one of our qualified fitness consultants for your Initial health and fitness consultation. This includes:
- One hour meeting with your allocated consultant
- Discussion about your personal goals and how best to achieve them within realistic time frames
- We will take a variety of measurements that allow you and us to measure progress over time
- We will discuss methods of achieving your goals that realistically fit around your lifestyle and preferences
- We will advise and support your in all other aspects of the facilities at the club, such as nutrition, social events etc
Step 2 Let’s get moving
This stage focuses around the personal fitness programme that your fitness consultant will tailor specially for you. We will go through the programme with you and then show you how it actually works on the gym floor with a 1-2-1 induction.
Step 3 Lets catch up
We are now at about week 6 of your programme and you should be starting to get your confidence up in using the gym / attending classes. However, we are only too well aware of how easy it is to lose motivation – so we are on hand to support you and meet with you – as much as you need. The gym is staffed at all times and any member of the fitness team will happily help you with setting up one of the stations, advise you on technique, recommend a class, need a change to your personalised programme or respond to your question. Step 3 involves you having a brief mid point review with your allocated Fitness Consultant – to check that things are going well and that you are making the progress that you expected.
Step 4 Progress Report
The first 12 weeks are up and this stage is about your progress which we evaluate with a 1 hour results consultation with your allocated Fitness Consultant. This includes:
- An hour appointment with your allocated Fitness Consultant
- We will retake measurements
- Review of progress and feedback against your goals
- Set new targets as necessary
- Reassess and provide you with an updated personalised programme
- We will advise and support you in all other aspects of the club
We will celebrate the success of your first 12 weeks with a complimentary gift from us to you!
One step beyond….
Don’t fret – you don’t suddenly go off our radar at the end of week 12 – the process starts all over again. You now have an updated programme and you revert into stage 2 for a maximum of another 12 weeks when another review will be booked. This process is ongoing and is key to your success and ours. You can therefore expect a re-assessment and new programme every 12 weeks.

If you are a confident gym user and new to our gym – we would still welcome the opportunity to meet with you and ensure you are properly inducted into our kit and go through your planned training programme. Remember – we are here to support both the new or less confident users and the fitness enthusiasts.
Your health and fitness is a journey – there will be highs and lows, times when you feel inspired and highly motivated and other days when the thought of going to the gym just doesn’t hit the spot. We know how that feels and understand that sometimes your fitness isn’t a top priority. However, we will be there to support you all the way, and as your goals change we will ensure your fitness programme reflects your needs.
