Bath YMCA Gym - Meet the Team

Meet the Team

Mick

I joined the ā€œYā€ as a Fitness Consultant in January 1998 and was later promoted to Senior Consultant. I am now managing the gym having moved up the ranks!

Before moving into the fitness industry I was a builder and roofing contractor but was hit hard by the recession of the 80’s. Because of my passion for Health and Fitness I retrained and have not looked back since. My love is Shotokan Karate and weight training.

If it is toning you want or getting rid of those wobbly bits then I’m your man! Many of my clients have transformed their bodies with a structured work out and guidance from me and my dedicated team. We have the most up to date equipment, a great tool for aiding our extensive knowledge.

Leonie

I have been in the fitness industry for over 12 years. My passion for fitness includes healthy eating so I am keen to help with nutritional advice, as well as keeping you fit. I love running, walking long distances, swiss ball and weight training. I also love helping people reach their goals. I have a young daughter so I understand the time constraints of ā€˜me time’ but I can show you how to get your body back in shape so come and see me!

Mel

I come from a dance and fitness background and ever since I was young I knew I wanted to dance. I have spent many years teaching classes so my obvious role at the YMCA is aerobic coordinator.

My other love is running, it is so rewarding for me and I remember the first time I ran I couldn’t make it to 2 minutes without stopping! But through determination I have ran the odd marathon for charity but it was crossing the finishing line of the New York marathon that was one of the best moments of my life.

But just because I work in the fitness industry doesn’t mean I’m good at all things sporty, I can’t ride a bike, I never got past the stabilisers!! I would love to learn and recently tried but kept falling off. If you’ve ever been on one our rounder’s nights you will know this too is not my forte!

Why don’t you try something new and challenging? You never know, you may enjoy it! Sometimes our biggest barriers are ourselves and most importantly have fun!!!

Simon

I have been a lively part of the YMCA team for five years and things just keep on getting better. I continue to love promoting healthy living in a friendly and non-intimidating environment and in addition to my full YMCAfit qualifications, my growing professional fitness portfolio now includes ā€˜Spinning’ and Core Strength, which I teach via my weekly classes – everyone is welcome!

I also work with private clients through the YMCA and from local Golf Clubs creating intelligent tailored fitness programmes for people of all abilities and interests. If there’s any time left for me at the end of the day, you’ll find me on the golf course, come rain or shine.

Craig

Sport, Fitness and training have always been a passion and a huge part of my life. My main two competitive sports were tennis and rugby of which I have played to first team level and coached.

I have a lot of industry experience, which also includes an 18 month stint in Australia, teaching health and fitness, a little rugby coaching and the odd one or two games!!

My qualifications include personal training, sports conditioning, sports nutrition, group exercise and massage.

Come and grab me for any help, or knowledge needed for you to reach your potential goals.

Susan

I have been working in the fitness industry since 2007 having completed the Level 3 Advanced Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer qualification at college. Away from my work in the gym I am a qualified aqua aerobics teacher, holding an Aquafit class each week in Paulton.

Since working at the YMCA I have qualified and taken responsibility for the Exercise Referral programme. Helping people with high blood pressure, arthritis, hip replacements etc get back into fitness in a safe and friendly environment.

Kickboxing is a passion of mine having successfully achieved 5 gradings up to brown stripe level. I have completed courses in Thump Boxing and Strike, the principles of which I have taken into the weekly ā€œKickbox for Fitnessā€ class that I now teach.

Helping people to achieve their goals and get the most out of their training programmes is why I enjoy the work I do.

Matt

Health and fitness have always been a passion for me and as a result it has played a large role in both my personal and professional life. Personally my love is weightlifting and power lifting, having a competitive background in both and winning the British titles in the latter. I love seeing how the body responds to exercise and the enjoyments and benefits it brings to an individual’s life.

Professionally, I graduated with a 2:1 in English and Sports Science from Loughborough University in 2007. This led to me working for Bath Rugby and more recently with a wide client base as a personal trainer.

I am here to use my experience and knowledge to help you achieve your fitness goals and enjoy the YMCA gym experience!
