Welcome to our new member of Staff Katie!

 

New Lockers

Phase one of the refurbishment has been completed and it looks brilliant. The ladies have been treated to a whole new set of wood finished lockers. The next step is creating a vanity unit with sockets for straighteners, curlers etc. Don’t worry gents, you aren’t going to miss out! Your lockers are due to go in any day now.

BODYBALANCE™ is the Yoga, Tai Chi, Pilates workout that builds flexibility and strength and leaves you feeling centered and calm. Controlled breathing, concentration and a carefully structured series of stretches, moves and poses to music create a holistic workout that brings the body into a state of harmony and balance. Like all the LES MILLS™ programs, a new BODYBALANCE™ class is released every three months with new music and choreography

Fancy something new? Then come and sweat the alphabet and dance the digits in this fun and energising class. Lacking in coordination? No problem – this class is for everyone, if you can move and you can spell you can do Bokwa! Classes starting on a regular basis with a FREE taster session Sunday 7 April 5.00 – 5.45pm

Good Friday 29 March* – 8.30am – 7.00pm

*Please note there will be no classes on these days. Saturday is operating as normal including classes. Class members are welcome to use the gym over the Easter period so no excuses!

New Faces

We would like to welcome our three new members of staff – Emily, Emma and Rebecca. Emily will be taking over the Studio Coordinating whilst Mel is on maternity leave and Emma and Rebecca will be part time in the gym. Check out our “Meet the Team” page to find out more.

To launch our 20 brand new Spin bikes we will be hosting a Spin Master Class Saturday 9 March with instructor Les Antoine.

Members – 1 Hour Session - £4.00 or 2 Hour Session - £6.00

Non Members – 1 Hour Session - £5.00 or 2 Hour Session - £8.00

Our very own Simon Watson has passed his Body Pump course! He will now be teaching Saturday mornings 10.30 – 11.30. Join him for his first class on Saturday 2 March!!

All Change – Studio News

This month there is plenty of change to the class timetable!

We welcome new instructor Pru who will taking Supple Strength on Mondays and Alex who will be taking over Wednesdays Zumba whilst Mel is on maternity leave.

Our Running Club will be stopping at the end of March.

Gym Circuits

It’s back!!! Join Joe for the first all new and exciting Gym Circuits Wednesday 20 March 1.00 – 1.45pm. FREE for Gym members and Gym/ Class members. Just £3.00 for Class members and £4.00 for non members. Bargain!

Staff News

Bye Bye Matt – Matt is moving to pastures new to follow his passion for Strength and Conditioning training. He has been an asset to the team and great fun to work alongside. Matt will be greatly missed by the team and members equally. We wish him well in everything he does. Good Luck Matt!

Best Wishes Mel – Mel will be leaving us on 1st March ready for the arrival of her baby. Everyone at the Y wishes her well and can’t wait to see the little bundle of joy soon.

Spin Bikes

It’s confirmed …. 20 brand new spin bikes are on their way!! Our ever popular spin classes will now be even bigger and better!! Check out the timetable to see when the class take place.

Gym Challenge

It’s Back!! Row, Row, Row your boat and complete 2000m on our rowers. This challenge is not about who can finish in the quickest time but who makes the most improvement! See a member of staff for more details.

Class Changes

A new year brings new instructors! Andy from Saturday circuits will be handing over the reins to Jamie and Martin from Tuesday’s Boxing Circuits will be handing over the gloves to Dave. Matt’s Tuesday morning Kettlebell class and Wednesday evening Tough Guy Circuits will welcome a new face to the Y – Cara! Change is as good as a holiday so come along for just £5 non members and £3 for members.

As of Wednesday 2 January 2013 the price of classes will be as follows;

1hr Classes, Kettlebell, Body Pump, Zumba and Spin - £5.00*
45 minute Classes excluding the above - £4.00*
Gym Members and Concession Rates - £3.00

*Loyalty cards can still be used.

Why Not Join as a Class Member?

Throughout January and February there will be a minimum of 3 month contract instead of 12. No joining fee and at just £27.50 per month what are you waiting for?

Caribbean Gym Challenge

Big WELL DONE to everyone who took part in the Caribbean Challenge.

Especially to Louise Bright, Jon Marshall, Tanya Marshall, Rachael King, Mark Rose, Tobi Lemburg, Howard Reynolds and Mel who made it all the way around the cardio element, and a massive pat on the back for Lesley O’Connor, the only person to successfully complete the entire challenge!!

YMCA Quiz Night

Fancy exercising your brain, sharing your wealth of knowledge and having a real good night? Then come along to the Y’s Quiz Night. Friday 9 November from 7.30pm in the conservatory. Just £2 per person, BYO nibbles and drink and maximum of 6 per team. See you there!

Caribbean Gym Challenge

Just 3 weeks left of the challenge, how far can you get? Massive WELL DONE to Lesley O’Connor, the first person to complete the entire challenge, she has conquered the cardio elements, battled through the individual tasks on each island and reached the finish line.

Another big WELL DONE to Tanya Marshall and Mark Rose for completing the cardio element of the challenge. It’s a long way but they didn’t give in!! Who will be next?

September Member of the Month - Sarah Cohen

Since re-joining the gym Sarah has shown total dedication in achieving her fitness goals. This includes stepping out of her comfort zone and embracing new equipment like the MaxRack and Cross-Trainer. The results of which are clear to see!

Caribbean Gym Challenge

Now that the summer is well and truly over why not warm yourself up with our Caribbean inspired challenge! Cruise around the islands calypso style and get a great workout in the process. See a member of staff for details.

August Member of the Month - Will Rowley

Having set himself a new challenge and goal, Will has trained twice a day with Cardio in the morning and Strength Conditioning during his lunch break…achieving this has needed dedication and a little sweat but he’s reached his goal in bucket loads.

July member of the month

Lesley O’Connor

Lesley first came to the Y on the GP referral scheme but after just 3 sessions decided she loved it and joined up! 3 years later and having overcome so much she is still going strong, training 3 times a week and constantly improving. Her new favourite is boxing!!

Archie Wins the Hamper!

Congratulations to Archie on successfully guessing the total amount of medals Team GB won during the Olympics. He got to take home our goodie filled, Olympic themed hamper!! Enjoy.
