YMCA City Centre Nursery

The longest established of all Bath YMCA nurseries, the YMCA City Centre Day Nursery is based at our main site in Broad Street Place, Bath. Established in 1995, we provide pre-school care and early education for children between the age of 18 months and 5 years. Registered for 26 children, we are also the smallest nursery in the group. We offer a wide variety of sessions and operate between the hours of 8.30am and 5.30pm.

At the YMCA City Centre Day Nursery we aim to provide high quality childcare, with experienced and qualified staff working closely with parents and carers to meet the needs of each child as an individual. We believe that young children should learn through play and our aim is to provide a safe, secure, friendly and relaxed environment in order that all children will achieve and develop during their early years.

Play Based Learning

Daily activities are based on the new Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and is enhanced by great staff and a high standard of resources and equipment. The curriculum divides into 4 areas of learning:

1. A unique child
2. Positive relationships
3. Enabling development
4. Learning and development

The learning goals are:

Communication, language and literacy
Personal, social and emotional development
Mathematical development
Knowledge and understanding of the World
Physical development
Creative development

Inside

There is a large multi use dedicated nursery area that can be sub-divided when appropriate. We also are fortunate that by being situated in the main YMCA building, we have designated access to other areas / rooms. For example we use the dance studio for indoor play (especially useful in very bad weather and when it’s extremely hot) and we also have access to the restaurant and conservatory for special occasions such as the Christmas party.

The following staffing ratios are maintained at all times:

Under 2’s 1:3
2 year olds 1:4
3 – 5 year olds 1:8

Outside

Size isn’t everything! We have a designated nursery garden that is adjacent to the dance studio. It may be small but we use every inch to the maximum! We have a mixture of fixed and mobile play equipment, a planting area for flowers and vegetables, a sand pit and shelters. We make use of the garden area all year whatever the weather and are delighted to have such a feature in the middle of the City!

Healthy Eating

All meals are cooked on site in the YMCA kitchen. The Catering Manager devises a rotating menu with the Nursery Manager and together they ensure that children receive a healthy and balanced diet. Special diets can also be catered for. We provide: mid morning snack, lunch, and an afternoon snack.

Term time only session are available for children over 3 years in receipt of the Early Years entitlement:

2.5 hour session	1.30pm – 4.00pm	No Charge
3 hour session	1.30pm – 4.30pm	No Charge
5 hour session	8.30am – 1.30pm (term time only)	No charge for session £2.45 charge for lunch
7.5 hour session	8.30am – 4.00pm	No charge for session £2.45 charge for lunch
