My YMCA career started as a volunteer at Plymouth YMCA, which eventually became a job before heading off to train in Birmingham as a Youth Worker. I then joined what was then called Welwyn Hatfield YMCA and soon became their Chief Executive – the youngest in the country at the time.
In this role I really learnt how to run, build and develop social housing; then we opened one of the first nurseries in the YMCA along with other children’s services. Most radically we also started a computer software company that provided software to support YMCA facilities and services.
This has gone on to become a successful independent company. I moved to Bath in 2003 and over the last ten or so years have really focused on growing the organisation and we now have 16 sites over several counties offering a variety of work – as you can see from this website!
We have great plans for developing our work in Bristol whilst continually seeking to develop and improve all areas of our work.
I couldn’t imagine not working for the YMCA – it is a special place and I am extremely proud of all that we do.
